The Day Centre is run largely by volunteers for the benefit of the over fifty fives and provides snacks, lunches and entertainment in the Crafton Room. The provision of cooked meals which started in 2003 on one day per week proved so successful that cooked meals are now provided on the three days when we are open. The paid staff are a Manager and two cooks. Frozen food is still provided for a minority of members who prefer a less expensive option or do not like the dishes on the day’s menu. We would like to open on four days per week but there is difficulty in finding enough volunteer help.
Lunch time is a lively event with plenty of conversation and laughter, followed in the afternoon by bingo beetle or whist
The financial policy remains to break even on the sale of meals and snacks and to keep sufficient reserves so as to be able to replace capital items such as ovens and freezers.
The building is available for letting to village organisations and this provides a significant contribution to our funds.
